For almost 20 years, I lived in mystery and frustration about my cycle. My period would vanish for weeks—sometimes months—and then return suddenly, heavy, painful, and emotionally draining. I battled bloating, fatigue, and mood swings, all while believing I was doing everything right: eating clean, exercising, even fasting up to 20 hours a day. I even completed a 7 days water fast in attempt to reset my hormones. But something still felt off.
As a registered nurse, I thought I should know how to fix this. But even with years of medical training, no one ever taught me how a woman’s menstrual cycle truly works, let alone how to support it. Coming from an immigrant Haitian background, periods weren’t something we openly talked about—except in old kitchen sayings like “don’t oversalt the food if a woman is bleeding.”
It wasn’t until I was finally diagnosed with PCOS nearly two decades after my symptoms began that I found the missing piece. That diagnosis led me down a path of true healing—into functional nutrition, hormone science, ancestral wisdom, spiritual practices, and somatic healing.
